Arkaba Station Flinders Ranges, SA

Saving wildlife through immersive outback safaris
Arkaba is an immersive Wild Bush Luxury experience in the outback with wildlife conservation and genuinely passionate people at its heart.

Arkaba is a remarkable 60,000 acre private wildlife conservancy in the southern Flinders Rangers. Its craggy sandstone bluffs and dry creek beds lined with River Red Gums are a quintessential Australian scene. Arkaba is about 425km north of central Adelaide – about 5 or 6 hrs or can be reached by charter.

The Homestead, dating back to 1856, is a classic Flinders Ranges building, with thick stone walls, deep shady verandahs and corrugated roofing all set against the backdrop of the rugged Elder Range.  There’s a maximum of 10 guests and its suitable for children 8yrs and over.

Relax in the library after an adventurous day in a deep armchair and a large stone fireplace and enjoy a quiet drink and a good book. Dinner is hosted on the terrace overlooking the garden and ranges beyond.  A 10m pool overlooks the Arkaba Creek and provides areas for relaxing in the midday heat of the summer months.  An open bar with a selection of beverages is available to guests and the resident chef provides traditional station cuisine with some contemporary and native elements to jazz it up.

Activities focus on early morning and late afternoon when the wildlife and the light are at their best. There’s much to do – wildlife viewing, bushwalking, photography, safari drives, visiting ancient aboriginal sites or just soaking up the sights and sounds of the bush. Enjoy bush picnics underneath magnificent River Red gums, track native wildlife, learn the stories of early European settlement or take a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound.
